Current mood:I'm going to hell

Real life free speech vs web free speech
Time for one of my "I’ve been surfing too much on the web and now hate the entire planet earth" rants. Yes, Myc hates these. *EG*

It has come to my attention that the misuse of the words free speech has seriously gotten out of hand. Oh yes, you are entitled to your own damn thoughts. This is true.

However free speech is NOT walking up to strangers on the street and verbally abusing them. Since when did free speech become a license for that? I see it rampant on the web, and apparently this mentality is leaking into real life. Thus making life even worse than it already is.

Free speech is indeed a good thing, until complete assholes use it as an excuse to say whatever they want, wherever they want. Please get it through your head. Yes, you have free speech, no free speech doesn't include accosting strangers on the street and yelling your opinions at them.

What one can get away with on the web, generally doesn't fly in real life.

You can keep your gays are going to hell theories, blacks are inferiors, jews run the world thoughts in your head. You can also get away with talking about it with your buddies, and probably at a protest as well. But you do not walk up to complete strangers on the street just for the hell of it and indulge in your thoughts. These peoples’ mamas definitely didn’t raise them right. Just because you can get away with it on the web, doesn’t mean you’ll get away with it in real life.

Oh, and for those think I‘m going to hell because of the way I live my life and my own beliefs:

#1. I already live in hell since I have to share space with you.

Or #2. If I have to share space in heaven with you, I’ll hang with Lucifer. He’s fucking hot!! K?

Take your choice.

I had an incident a year or two ago in a parking lot at a shopping plaza. I was waiting at the green light to take a left hand turn. The car behind me kept beeping at me to go, but there was a lot of on coming traffic. I wasn't about to pull in front of it and especially not with my kid in the car. Once I was able to pull into the plaza. Thas asshole followed me to where I parked and proceed to tell me what a losey driver I was--because I was being cautious?!. I told him to fuck off and he then proceed to harangue me about speaking like that in front of my kid and what kind of an example I'm teaching... This was a young late teen early 20's guy with his girlfriend sitting in the passenger seat giggling about it. In hilarity or embarrassment I don't know. But I can say this, what he did wasn't a good example either. I was *this close* to calling 911 on him for harassment and stalking. Instead I just grabbed my kid and went into the store.

Asshole! He totally ruined my mood for the day. I was so upset. I don't do confrontation very well.

You know I really don't get it. I'm starting to think people are taking their online behavior into real life. More so than has been apparent in society until now.

My mom did NOT raise me to be that way. This belief that we can actually walk up to a complete stranger and say whatever the hell we feel like. That is not free speech. And ppl are trying to disguise it by saying free speech gives me the right to say whatever I want. It's starting to piss me off.

That's not free speech...that's being an ignorant asshole. I find more and more that there is no courtesy or respect for others or tolerance for those who are different. People seem to try to find an "excuse" for their own bad behavior. It's very frustrating.
